This beautiful stone shows a fire breathing dragon. What treasure is it guarding?
The word dragon derives from Ancient Greek drákōn, latin draco, to see or sharp-sighted one.
Dragons have a rich history all over the world from Asia where it symbolises power, fortune, authority, growth, luck and development to Europe where it was thought to guard treasures, live in areas with great power and magic and be the gatekeeper to other worlds.
The dragon depiction below is particularly well crafted. The fire that can be seen in the dark area has been achieved through light reflection rather than shading. The way the artist has captured the essence of fire and smoke is amazing.
Along the middle of the stone can be seen a serpent with tongue out, licking the nostril of a green eyed witch.
